TV LUVVIES GET THE DOLLY WOBBLES

PC flakery as iconic show girls axed

- ■ by PETER DYKE

TELLY bosses have kicked the legendary Dolly Dealers off the rebooted Play Your Cards Right fearing they might upset snowflakes.

TV’S legendary Dolly Dealers have been axed from the rebooted Play Your Cards Right tonight.

Bosses think it would be politically incorrect to have sexy girls parading about on the newlook game show hosted by Alan Carr.

However, the original Dolly Dealers are fuming at the decision.

Actress and model Lesley Anderson blasted: “Play Your Cards Right is a family show and The Dollies were not silly little scantily clad girls showing boobs. This whole PC thing is rubbish.

“This sounds a ridiculous move.”

Dancer Gillian Elvins said: “It’s political correctness gone over the top now.

“What’s wrong with seeing beautiful girls on TV?

“Do they want us to come on in a builder’s jacket with a shovel now?

“The show won’t be the same without the Dollies. “They were iconic.” Play Your Cards Right is one of the old TV favourites which have been revived for Carr’s Epic Gameshow series. It was a huge hit for the late Sir Bruce Forsyth, who was assisted on the show by Dolly Dealers including ex Miss UK Vicki-lee Walberg, Crackerjack’s Jan Michelle and Sharon Amos.

Their job was to bring out the large playing cards and place them on a huge board.

The contestants would guess whether each one was higher or lower than the last to win prizes.

However, for Carr’s new version, the Dolly Dealers are gone and he has just one helper – a woman called Sam Brown – who he refers to as “a dealer”.

On tonight’s show he shakes her hand and jokes about the new PC rules, saying: “I can’t say you look ‘wonderful’ these days so I can say you look ‘very workmanlike and efficient.’”

Ex-male model John Melainey, who worked on Play Your Cards Right in the 1980s and was brought in as eye candy for female viewers, said: “Dolly Dealers were innocent fun but now we live in a different era. Those days are gone.”

Last night ITV declined to comment.

● The Epic Gameshow airs tonight at 8.15 on ITV with guests including Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
