REID: NOW I’D BE CALLED A BULLY

-

FOOTBALL legend Peter Reid reckons his infamous half-time rants would be classed as bullying now by modern players.

The former Manchester City and Sunderland boss says managers have to be careful what they say in today’s socalled “woke” culture.

Reid, 64, was known for his foul-mouthed team talks which he admits could help turn games in his side’s favour.

But if he was in the hot seat nowadays, he would have to change his style. Reid, who also managed Leeds United, Coventry City and Plymouth Argyle, said: “I used to get after people, I’d certainly do it a different way now.

“I think you can do it a little bit more subtly nowadays.”

He added: “If you give the lads the hairdryer every team talk or every team meeting it falls on deaf ears because they get fed up with it.

“You can only do it as an impact every now and then.”
