Medals safe as houses
THE “lost” medals of an RAF ace have been reunited with his family after they were found in a safe in the cellar of his old home 30 years later.
Air Vice-marshal Francis “Togs” Mellersh won the Distinguished Flying Cross twice during World War Two.
He died in 1996 and when his wife Elisabeth passed away last year, daughter Fiona Syms put their house in Newenden, Kent, up for sale.
The new owner said workmen found her dad’s medals in an old safe.
Fiona, 51, said: “I was very emotional to see them again.”
