Cigs go up in smoke

SMOKERS puffed 20million fewer cigarettes a month after plain packets and a tax increase came into force.

Before the ban on branded packs, cig sales were down 12m a month, says a University of Bath poll. Professor Anna Gilmore said: “Tax increases and standardised packaging has led to a decline in tobacco sales.”
