NEW ORDER FOR DUTY

-

BRAS, babies and buggies are among the top places for shoplifters to hide their stolen items. A new Channel 5 show tonight lifts the lid on the war that security guards face trying to catch thieves in Coventry and Northamptonshire.

Some even sewed pockets into skirts and bags to stash their goods or stuffed them down socks and trousers, or even under hats.

Shoplifters: At War With the Law

Channel 5 at 9pm. is tonight on

LINE Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio admits the show’s legendary interview room scenes will have to be re-jigged in the new series.

Filming on the sixth season of the BBC drama was shut down in March due to coronavirus.

But when the cast – including Adrian Dunbar, Vicky Mcclure and Martin Compston – return to work next month in Belfast on the police anticorruption serial there will be new social-distancing measures in place.

And Jed has had to rethink some scenes, including those tense interview room confrontations with the cops and the suspects and their lawyers.

Jed says some footage which had been filmed earlier this year may need to be reshot so it doesn’t look out of place after the pandemic.

He says: “There are quite significant practical obstacles in prime-time drama, particularly for a police series with action sequences, guns and interview scenes involving multiple characters.

“Line of Duty is one of those series that attempts to be set in the real world, and often we refer to events in the past and dates in the past.

“Clearly anything that relates to the period of the pandemic may have an effect on what events could really have happened and how police may have gone about their work in this current climate.

“I think we may have to look at that.”
