ATTACK OUTSIDE CLUB
TOTTENHAM defender Serge Aurier’s younger brother was shot dead in France yesterday.
Christopher Aurier was attacked outside a nightclub at around 5.15am on Monday.
The 26-year-old, who played for fifth division football team Toulouse Rodeo, was pronounced dead in hospital.
The suspect in the shooting was last night still at large.
Serge, 27, played in Spurs’ 2-1 win over Arsenal only hours earlier.
Tottenham Hotspur said: “The club is deeply saddened to confirm media reports that Serge Aurier’s brother passed away in the early hours of this morning. Everybody at the club sends their sincerest condolences to Serge and his family.
“Our thoughts are with them all.”
French news site Le Point reported that a witness heard two shots fired on Boulevard de Thibaud in Toulouse.
Local reports say residents called the police after finding a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
An investigation has been launched to find the suspect, who fled the crime scene.
Christopher, who was a citizen of Ivory Coast like Serge, inset, played for Racing Club de Lens, Gueugnon, Chantilly and Belgian club Rebecq.
He had a trial for Championship team Brentford in 2011.
Right-back Serge started out at Lens, like his brother, before signing for Toulouse. The Ivory Coast international transferred to Paris Stgermain in 2015 before signing for Spurs two years later.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe, 21, tweeted his support to the Spurs player, writing: “Je suis avec toi (I am with you).”
