IT’S ABOUT BLEEDIN’ TIME!
We have had months of clowning around... now Bojo is FINALLY set to make wearing masks in shops compulsory
AFTER four months of mixed messages since Covid broke out Boris Johnson’s Government is finally set to make wearing a mask in shops in England mandatory.
THE Government is finally set to make wearing a mask in shops in England compulsory.
Ministers had been slammed for sending mixed messages but it seems they have made a decision – four months after coronaviris hit the UK.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged the nation to cover up.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock will say anyone who fails to comply with the order, which comes into force on July 24, could face a fine of up to £100.
Minister Michael Gove said it was “best to trust people’s common sense”. But Justice Secretary Robert Buckland argued that “perhaps” masks should become mandatory when people are inside.
Value
The PM, who wore one out in London, insisted they had a “great deal of value in confined spaces”.
He also said evidence to support their use was “growing”.
The Government was criticised for being “all over the place”.
Royal Society president Dr Venki Ramakrishnan said: “I think that the Government should be very clear.
“It’s not consistent to make it mandatory on public transport and not in other enclosed, busy public spaces.”
Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth said: “Ministers are in a complete muddle.”
A Twitter user said: “We all know Boris is a clown, yesterday’s face mask stunt another example of this.”
A further 11 people have died from coronavirus, with the UK total 44,830.
