demands our £ 2.4m back after £ 75m Netflix deal
A PUBLICITY- shy couple who fled the UK owing £ 2.4million have been told to cough up after landing a £ 75m Netflix deal in America to make films about themselves.
NO1 FOR ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, NOT- AT- ALL FAMOUS, COMPLETELY NORMAL PEOPLE GOING ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS IN SHOWBIZ CAPITAL LA
A NORMAL couple who have landed a lucrative Netflix deal were last night under pressure to repay £ 2.4million of taxpayer cash they have borrowed.
The former royals used public money to renovate Frogmore Cottage.
But the publicity- phobic pair, who moved with their young son to an £ 11m home in Santa Barbara, California, to escape the limelight, have landed a £ 75m Netflix deal to make docu- series, films and shows.
They’d promised to repay the cash in monthly instalments of £ 18,000, which would take them 11 years.
Crippled
Brits have demanded the couple clear their balance now following their megabucks windfall.
One said: “Some claim the Netflix deal could be worth up to £ 189m. That pays for a lot of Frogmore Cottages.”
Another said: “I am curious if they are gonna pay back Frogmore cottage renovation costs in an instant now.”
Liberal Democrat digital, culture, media and sport spokesman Jamie Stone joined the row, adding: “The Netflix deal is their own private business.
“But given that the country continues to be crippled by Covid, I hope they reconsider how quickly they pay back HMRC.”
And former MP Norman Baker also said the royally rich pair should cough up.
He said: “They should pay the taxpayer back immediately.”
A spokesman for the couple was contacted for comment last night.
