BLUES HAV ANOTHER SPLURGE

- By TONY BANKS

KAI HAVERTZ last night completed his £ 85m switch to Chelsea – taking their summer spending to an eye- watering £ 214m.

The Germany attacking midfielder left his country’s Nations League camp yesterday to fly to London to complete a medical and sign a five- year contract worth £ 310,000 a week.

Havertz, 21 could now become Chelsea’s most expensive player ever after £ 71.6m goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, if add- ons included in the deal are paid.

The Blues have paid £ 62m up front to Bayer Leverkusen and the Bundesliga club will earn a further £ 23m in bonuses.

Leverkusen had wanted more than £ 90m but Stamford Bridge director Marina Granovskaia managed to talk the price down after weeks of negotiation.

Havertz is not expected to rejoin the Germany squad for their Nations League game with Switzerland tomorrow.

Instead he will stay in England to finalise details on his deal.

His arrival follows the signings of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell at Stamford Bridge this summer. Meanwhile, the true cost of Eden Hazard’s move to Real Madrid from Chelsea was revealed last night – thanks to an alleged fraud case in Belgium.

Hazard switched to Real last summer for a fee reported to be £ 89m at the time.

But Chelsea will actually receive £ 143m and the Belgium skipper’s first club, AFC Tubize, the full £ 713,000 they are due for the two years he spent there as a schoolboy.

A Korean- owned company allegedly posing as Tubize tried to siphon off the cash but the alleged fraud was exposed this week.
