ROSE: JOSE WAS NOT BEING FAIR
DANNY ROSE was shifted out of Spurs after he accused Jose Mourinho of treating him unfairly.
The latest batch of episodes of the Amazon Prime Video documentary All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur shows how the England defender demanded showdown talks after being left out of the team for the 0- 0 draw at Watford in January.
Mourinho is seen ushering Rose into his office in front of him and shutting the door.
“I want to know what the problem is,” Rose begins. “You know exactly what I mean, how I am being treated.
“If you don’t want me to play, I’d rather you just told me now and I would stay at home, gaffer, and train at home.”
Mourinho, however, gives off the air that he has been in this situation a million times before.
“Let me try to be as open as I can with you,” he begins.
“The week before Liverpool you were fantastic in training and that made me decide you play but I think you didn’t play well.
“Then the next game against Middlesbrough, Japhet Tanganga plays so well, I cannot say you are going to play every match. It depends.” That is still not reason enough for Rose, though.
“Do you want me to be man of the match when I play one game and then don’t play again for three weeks?” he demands.
“You are the manager and you are saying against Liverpool I did not have a good game. You were right and I respect what you say.
“But other people have been s*** in training and s*** in games. But they are still in the squad and they play every game. It is not fair.”
“That is your perspective,” Mourinho says.
“I am going now to see Daniel Levy. When Daniel is in, tell him I am looking for him.”
It is clear that Mourinho is confident that he has the absolute backing of his chairman.
“You are an honest guy,” he says. “I think you should see him – open your heart.”
“I cannot watch centre- backs and right- footed centre- backs play in my place,” Rose says to the documentary makers. “It really is a slap in the face.”
Seven months on, Rose is back at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium after a spell at Newcastle and still has not played another minute for the club he has served for 13 years.
