DIER HAILS DANE

ERIC DIER is relishing his reunion with Christian Eriksen when England meet Denmark in Copenhagen tonight.

The Three Lions star knows the great Dane well after becoming close friends with him during their time together at Tottenham.

Dier, 26, ( inset) has kept in close touch with Eriksen since he left Spurs to join Inter Milan in January.

And he admits he will present a huge threat to Gareth Southgate’s s men in this evening’s group game.

A but Dier knows he remains one of the best midfielder­s rs in world football on n his day.

The defender said: “It will be a difficult game. Denmark has a lot of good players and some that I know well from the Premier League.

“They have been very competitiv­e for quite a few years now so we expect a tough game.

“Christian is a very good friend of mine and we speak often. We had a good relationsh­ip at Tottenham and he is a fantastic player with so much quality.

“You go through a transition when you go to a new team in a new country and with all the coronaviru­s stuff and the impact of that, it must have been a very difficult time for him. But he tells me he’s settled in well and is enjoying it.”

Dier is on a mission to help the Three Lions win a major tournament and he added: “It would be a great milestone for us.

“That’s the ambition – to try to win something with the national team.

“We want to go one step further, get to finals and start winning competitio­ns.”

Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand admits he is disappoint­ed disapp England stars star Mason Greenwood Gr and Phil Foden have let football down.

The pair have b been sent home from fr Iceland and Hjulmand Hju admits they could have put the game at risk after breaching England protocols.

He said: “I only got the informatio­n stepping into the press conference, so I didn’t hear about what happened exactly, I didn’t hear about how the bubble was broken and what the consequenc­es could be.

“But I think it’s very important that we stay in the principles, in the protocols that we have been given.

“It’s about football and the survival of football. I think that we are still able to play is very important.

“There’s been a lot of things going on so we can actually play these matches. We have to be focused and live up to the protocols.”
