MARCUS Rashford will get an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours while a team of frontline workers are recognised for their Covid- 19 work.

Joe Wicks and Mr Motivator – aka Derrick Evans – also get MBES for putting on live workouts during lockdown.

Some 1,495 people are honoured nationally, including 414 nurses, doctors, frontline workers and community champions.

The Cabinet Office said it reflected the “huge voluntary effort in response to Covid- 19 with recipients cumulatively supplying millions of free meals to those shielding, delivering care packages to NHS frontline workers and clocking up countless voluntary hours”.

Manchester United and England striker Rashford, 22, forced the Government to extend its food voucher scheme for children on free school meals during holiday time.

He will take his mum with him to Buckingham Palace to collect his gong.

In a BBC interview due to be screened this morning, he said:

“She’s dead happy. It’s obviously a proud moment for her and it’s all just a little bit strange, you know.

“People from where we come from don’t get these type of things, so we don’t know how to act or behave. But it’s just a proud moment for everyone.’’

Others recognised include Winsome May Thomas, chief of Imperial College NHS Trust BAME Nurses and Midwives Network, with a British Empire Medal for services to nursing.

Felicia Margaret Kwaku, associate director of nursing at Kings College NHS Foundation Trust, gets an OBE for services to nursing.

Adrian Petticrew has been awarded an OBE for services to St John Ambulance, while Dr Conall Mccaughey, of Belfast HSC Trust, gets an OBE for services to laboratory testing.
