It’s not seven ’ n hell for Cavani
EDINSON CAVANI says he is ready to hit the same heights as Manchester United greats who have worn the famous No. 7 shirt.
The striker has been given the same number as legends like George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But Cavani, 33, is confident he can do it justice and leave it with the same iconic status when he hands it on to the next wearer.
“It’s a fantastic challenge, and an exciting responsibility too, which I’m accepting with the best will in the world,” he said.
“I’ll be working really hard to perform at my very best so I can leave that number, that shirt, just how it was left by those players.
“I enjoy challenges and I hope that I can do it great justice.”
Cavani wore the No. 7 at both Palermo and Napoli but he accepts he is loading pressure on himself ahead of his anticipated debut in the Premier League.
“I can’t wait to get out there on the field and be there, able to play. The English league represents something really special, but I think what Manchester United represents on a worldwide scale is just incredible,” he said.
“It’s getting closer, so I’m eager and anxious to get started.”
Cavani revealed he turned to former Paris
St- Germain team- mate and ex- United star Ander Herrera for the final nudge as he contemplated a number of offers this summer.
“We did have a lot of different options. It was genuinely getting to the last minute,” he said.
“But after I’d finished talking with Ander, we came to an agreement here with the club.”
