JUDGE JUS IT IN
BRITISH official Terry O’connor was accused of using his phone while judging a fight by a number of leading boxing names, including promoter Eddie Hearn.
A screengrab circulating on Twitter alleged to show O’connor looking at a mobile during Lewis Ritson’s win over Miguel Vazquez.
Further examination proved the judge glanced at his paper scorecard for a second during the eighth round of the clash in Peterborough.
British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith said he would look into it but O’connor is unlikely to face any action. But he could still face an investigation into his card for the fight after somehow giving the bout to Ritson 117- 111.
Vazquez was the clear victor in the 12- round clash as the Mexican outboxed the Brit.
Judge Marcus Mcdonnell scored the fight 116- 113 in favour of f Vazquez but Michael Alexander also gave it to Ritson 115- 113.
Meanwhile, Teofimo Lopez has told Vasiliy Lomachenko he has no interest in a rematch after he dethroned the poundfor- pound king to become undisputed lightweight champ.
The Brooklyn boxer handed Lomachenko just the third defeat in his life – amateur and professional – with a stunning display in Las Vegas at the weekend.
Unbeaten Lopez, 23, claimed a unanimous decision over the
32- year- old Ukrainian.
Lopez dismissed a rematch when asked about it at the MGM Grand hotel.
He said: “For what? I beat him and I did everything I had to beat him. There was no rematch clause for a reason.”
