Most Brits wait until December 1 before decking out their homes with tinsel, lights and Christmas trees.

But because of the miserable year – and spurred on by your Daily Star’s “Show Us Your Baubles” campaign – loads of us made it a festive November.

A study found most consumers turned on their festive lights on November 26 – five days earlier than the conventional start.

Festive Brits have also said they will keep their lights on for an extra four days this year, turning them off on January 7.

Back in early November we launched the “Show Us Your

Baubles” campaign urging people to start the festive season early this year.

Stars such as Christopher

Biggins, Chris Kamara and

Basil Brush all backed the move as a way of seeing off

2020 as soon as possible.

Panto legend Biggins said:

“This sounds a great way to cheer us all up right now.

“Now you have mentioned it I might get my baubles out early too!”

And other star names like

Michelle Keegan, Maya Jama and Joan Collins took up the idea and put their decorations and trees up early.

Figures from Uswitch show the average display costs £ 52, but could add £ 79m to total energy bills.

The study also found one in six households has had a disagreement with neighbours over displays, with almost half ( 44%) falling out because lights “looked tacky”.

Sarah Broomfield of Uswitch said: “If you are planning to buy some lights, it is always worth checking the labels to see how much energy they use.”
