Reds in RB plea

- By DAVID MADDOCK

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has asked the German government to make an exception to their coronavirus rules.

The Premier League side are due to face RB Leipzig away in the first leg of their last-16 tie in the Champions League on February 16.

But Liverpool have been banned from entering Germany due to regulations that come into force this weekend, preventing all arrivals into the country from areas affected by Covid-19 mutations.

That means the game cannot be played at RB Leipzig’s ground, with UEFA naming Buadpest’s Puskas Arena as their mandated alternative venue for the meeting.

But Klopp said: “We can play without spreading the virus.

“I think it would be reasonable to make an exception.

“The rules are rules and we will accept them but we don’t know if the German government are making a general decision.”
