Carlo tells Gareth to give Ben a call

- By CHRIS MCKENNA

CARLO ANCELOTTI believes England boss Gareth Southgate should be watching Ben Godfrey.

The Three Lions boss (inset) has been at Goodison Park twice recently – for their draw with Leicester last month and Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Tottenham.

It has led to speculation that the Toffees’ £25m summer signing from Norwich could get a surprise call-up for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against San Marino,

Albania and Poland.

Defender Godfrey

(below) has filled in across the whole of the back four this season.

Ancelotti said: “Gareth doesn’t need advice from me, but to watch Ben at this moment, is a pleasure.

“He has surprised me because I didn’t know him so well. He has been able to adapt very quickly to different positions.”

At the other end of the pitch, Richarlison scored a double against Spurs in the FA Cup thriller that saw the Toffees book a quarter-final spot.

But the Brazilian has not scored in the Premier League since December, ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Fulham.

Ancelotti called on Richarlison to sacrifice more after the defeat at home to Newcastle two weeks ago. But the Italian insists motivation is not the former Watford forward’s issue.

He said: “He scored two goals against Tottenham. There are two kinds of players, the player that has to run and the players that can run and can decide games by scoring goals.

“He was decisive for the game and so he didn’t need to run.

“But when he’s not decisive in the game, he has to run, he knows this.”

Dominic Calvertlewin, meanwhile, will miss tomorrow’s visit of Fulham after picking up a hamstring injury against Spurs.
