KIDS should be given a “summer of play” to help them recover from being in lockdown for months, rather than an extended school term or longer days, experts say.

Psychologi­sts reckon spending time outdoors being physically active and having fun with friends will benefit their mental health far more than extra classes.

A group of academics called Playfirstu­k have written to Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, saying: “Children need time and space to recover from the stress that the past year has placed on them.”
