Gate wait is worth it

-

PROFESSIONAL sport has kept many of us going through the pandemic.

Deprived of many freedoms, the fact we can still watch our heroes on the telly has been a godsend.

But let’s be clear about this.

It just isn’t the same without the crowds. Obviously, for regular live spectators the stadium bans have been a huge lifestyle change.

But even for armchair viewers, it’s not as good without the fans shouting and screaming.

So it’s right that the Government are looking at ways to get them back in.

Hosting an international football tournament is the ideal way to get over the lockdown blues.

Clearly safety has to be the most important factor.

And whatever measures brought in will no doubt be time-consuming.

If that means fans have to take a test at home or even at the gate, then so be it.

Once they are cheering on England inside Wembley, will fans care about that?

After waiting more than a year they aren’t going to mind a few hours!
