Gucci beach sandals go perfect with socks
ITALIAN style house Gucci has breathed new life into a classic fashion no-no – the jelly shoe.
The high-end label is knocking out pairs of men’s black rubber sandals, that go perfect with socks, for a whopping £355.
Similar-looking jellies, bottom left, can be snapped up on Amazon for as little as £5.99.
Gucci’s version come complete with the firm’s famous interlocking double GG logo on one jelly and a big cat’s head on the other.
Jelly shoes – usually reserved as cheap and cheerful beachwear for nippers – crossed over to adult wear and were sold on high streets for grown-ups in the 80s and 90s.
And after a poll branded them one of the worst fashion disasters of all time, they appeared to be consigned to the style dust bin – until now.
Gucci describes its new incarnation as: “A strap sandal in rubber embellished with Double G hardware on one shoe and metalfeline head on the other.”
Amazingly, style bible Vogue suggests teaming sandals with socks for a killer combination.
The magazine says: “Designers and celebrities agree: it’s a trend to try. And the good news is the socks and sandals trend can go from completely casual to laid-back luxe.
“Working from home is an opportune time to find the combination that works just right for you, whether you’re looking to jazz up your favourite summer sandals or elevate your most basic slides.”
It has been revealed recently that several other fashion disasters – including Speedos for blokes and giant shoulder pads in jackets for women – are making a comeback.
And perm and mullet haircuts, known as pullets and also made famous in the 70s and 80s, are becoming trendy again.
