Boris offers to share our jabs to halt war with EU

A MAJOR trial on the Oxford-astrazeneca vaccine found it is 100% effective at preventing serious disease.

American researchers gave 32,000 volunteers – a fifth aged over 65 – two doses of the jab, four weeks apart.

No-one needed hospital treatment for Covid afterwards. And almost 80% were protected against even a mild form of the virus.

Andrew Pollard, lead investigator of the Oxford University trial of the vaccine, said: “These results are great news as they show the remarkable efficacy of the vaccine in a new population and are consistent with the results from Oxford-led trials.”

Oxford’s professor of vaccinology Sarah Gilbert said it also proved claims the jab was less effective among over-65s were wrong.

Last week the leaders of 13 European countries suspended use of the Astrazeneca

shot over fears it increased the threat of blood clots. Most of the bans were lifted after a European Medicines Agency review said the claims were unfounded.

BORIS Johnson will offer to share millions of Britain’s Covid jabs with Europe to dodge a crippling vaccine war.

The move comes amid growing concern that EU chiefs will ban the export to the UK of vaccinations manufactured on the continent. Any block on shipping them could delay Britain’s ever-faster jabs rollout by months.

A third wave of coronavirus is now threatening to engulf Europe.

Last night the Prime Minister said: “People in this country should be under no illusions that previous experience has taught us that when a wave hits our friends, it washes up on our shores as well”.
