WHAT A TEEMU!

Ruthless Canaries on verge of Prem return

- ■ by JON WEST

TEEMU PUKKI and Emi Buendia tortured the Terriers to set a date for Norwich’s potential promotion party.

Victory at Derby on Saturday plus news that Brentford and Swansea haven’t won elsewhere will see them back in the Premier League.

And there is no denying the Canaries would deserve it after the way they humiliated Huddersfield.

The Terriers were five down at the break in a game that saw Pukki net a hat-trick and Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell and sub Jordan Hugill also get on the score sheet.

Huddersfield feared they were in for it when keeper Ryan Schofield fell ill in the warm-up.

Manchester United loanee Joel Pereira replaced him between the sticks for only his second Terriers appearance – and was picking the ball out of the net after just eight minutes.

Cantwell jinked past challenges on the left of the box to tee-up Pukki for a close-range finish.

Pukki doubled the lead in the 20th minute with a rising drive that gave Pereira no chance.

Buendia claimed a quality assist by winning the ball in his own half and then sending an arcing ball between two defenders to put the Finn clear.

Pereira was beaten again three minutes later when a Cantwell-pukki combination fed Buendia who planted a 22-yard drive in off a post.

Huddersfield’s torment continued with Cantwell smashing in a fourth in the 29th minute. Buendia was involved again with a turn in the box to feed the England Under-21 midfielder from 16-yards out.

Buendia then rattled the bar from a free-kick move but there would be no let off for the visitors.

Dowell made it 5-0 in the 42nd minute with a tap in after a super-quick exchange of passes with Buendia that left the Terriers reeling.

Huddersfield switched from three to four at the back for the second half.

Pukki claimed the match ball in the 61st minute and brought his Canaries goal tally to 25 for the season by slotting home a penalty after Isaac Mbenza’s push on Oliver Skipp.

It just wasn’t Huddersfield’s night as Demeaco Duhaney saw a header hit a post before Hugill replaced Pukki and tapped in the seventh from Max Aarons’ ball to the back post in the 79th minute.
