Dog attacks alert

- By Catherine Wooding

DOG attacks are set to rise, as experts warn all breeds must be under control.

Animal behaviourists say an increase in new dog owners and lack of socialisation and training could fuel a surge in attacks.

It’s not just humans at risk – there are many cases of dogs attacking other dogs as well as wildlife and farm animals.

And post-lockdown, territorial behaviours are likely to surface .

Dog attacks can not only cause injury and even death, but they also have costly and serious legal ramifications for owners with insufficient insurance. A law firm is warning owners of potentially expensive personal injury and property damage claims. Rachel Fletcher, of Slater Heelis, says: “It’s against the law to own a dog that acts dangerously. “There’s a lot of confusion about the serious legal implications of harming someone’s pet, livestock or another person. “Whether you’re in your neighbour’s garden, a public space or even in your own home, it’s your responsibility to control your dog. No matter what breed you own.”
