MUSK: JURASSIC PARK A REALITY
Tech giant could create dinosaur zoo
ELON Musk has the tech to build a real-life Jurassic Park.
Max Hodak, co-founder of his firm Neuralink, reckons a dino zoo could become a reality.
He claims the billionaire’s company has the ability to create modernday dinosaurs within 15 years.
The biomedical engineer said they would look the same – but would not be genetically identical.
He wrote on Twitter: “We could probably build Jurassic Park if we wanted to. But they wouldn’t be genetically authentic dinosaurs.
“Maybe 15 years of breeding and engineering to get super-exotic novel species. Biodiversity (anti-fragility) is definitely valuable, conservation is important and makes sense.
“But why do we stop there? Why don’t we more intentionally try to generate novel diversity?”
However, he did not provide specifics about exactly how the company planned to revive the prehistoric beasts. And fans were quick to point out that it may not be a great idea.
The classic 1993 movie Jurassic Park, starring
Sam Neill, and its sequels, depict how reviving the species could go disastrously wrong. In the first film, the dinos are cloned using paleo-dna from either bones or the gut of mosquitoes in amber. But the beasts break free and go on the attack.
The tech firm is also making strides in other areas of science. Last year, Neuralink unveiled a working prototype of a brain-implant device which founders believe can cure everything from blindness to quadriplegia.
