Sherlocks: We are no fakers!

FESTIVALS ‘SHOULD BE LIVE’

-

THE Sherlocks say they are the “Tyson Fury” of the music industry.

Frontman Kiaran Crook has insisted that like the boxing champ, they’re one of the few artists keeping it real in an industry full of fakes.

He’s sick of seeing bands rock out to backing tracks at festivals instead of playing proper live, raw music.

The rocker from Rotherham, south Yorks, told me: “It’s not the same as it was, there’s not enough live bands.

“It’s the same as anything like when it comes to boxing you have someone like Tyson Fury who is the people’s champ, and you can see him walking around on his own.

“But then you have people like Anthony Joshua or Floyd Mayweather who are more like celebrities, walking around with like 20 bodyguards.

“We feel like we are the Tyson Fury of our industry.

“We are keeping it real and actually play these tunes, but then you have people blagging it by playing a backing track or getting as far as they’re getting because they have a good manager. They don’t even have to write a good song any more.

“They can write a crap song and cover it up with tricks, just some weird productions.”

Kiaran believes that mistakes in live shows are a good thing because it shows the band are doing it all themselves. He added: “Bands are too focused on making it sound perfect but fans don’t want it to be perfect, if they wanted it perfect then they’d buy your record.

“When you go and see a live band, mistakes are never good but it shows they’re human, live, someone is playing that guitar. When you see us live every sound you hear is from us, no backing track.”

The Sherlocks are back today with their first song in two years called End of the Earth, and Kiaran stressed they fully believe

in every single they release. “We never put a song out that we think is just all right. Every song we put out we think is mint. These other bands must think their tunes are good but from where I am sitting I think it’s shocking.”

End of the Earth sees the boys reflect on the start of the pandemic last spring: “I’m just describing what was going on in the supermarkets, when it felt like a mission to get in and get your stuff and get out. I couldn’t believe what was happening.” ●Hear The Sherlocks play fully live this October in Grimsby and Manchester.
