National sweepstake kit

THERE might be no crowds at this year’s Randox Grand National due to Covid-19 restrictions, but you can still celebrate the big race at home with our fun sweepstake.

While 2019 winner Tiger Roll won’t be returning to attempt a historic third title at the 5.15pm race tomorrow, there are plenty of other horses tipped for the top.

This year’s favourite is Cloth Cap at 4-1, which could give owner Trevor Hemmings a record fourth triumph.

Or history could be made and a female jockey could win the race for the first time – third favourite is currently Minella Times at 9-1, who will be ridden by Rachael Blackmore.

This is the National though, so you can’t rule out a long-shot pipping the others to the post.

To take part in our sweepstake safely this year, you could have a virtual flutter with friends and family on Zoom.

And if you’re still going to your workplace, it’s a fun thing to do with your colleagues.

This is how it works.

The panel on the left lists all 40 runners.

Simply cut out each name, fold them and put them in a hat.

As each person draws a horse, write their name in the box next to the runner in the master chart on the right.

Check there have been no withdrawals – if so, substitute the reserve now running.

If you charge everyone £1 for a horse, this will produce a £40 kitty.

We suggest a first prize of £20, a second of £10, £6 for third and £4 for fourth. But it’s up to you.

Just make sure you explain the rules to all those taking part before taking their dosh.
