WARREN CARL’S RIGHT TO BOW OUT
CARL FRAMPTON will go down as one of Ireland’s best-ever fighters.
But now is the right time to retire after his bold bid to become a three-weight world champion came up short last week.
Frampton (below) just didn’t look right against the impressive Jamel Herring, who defended his WBO super-featherweight title in style.
But you can take nothing away from the Belfast fighter who has had a glittering career in the ring.
There was always something special about him and he seemed a down-toearth fighter who fought for his family.
The win over Scott Quigg in 2016 was clinical while he followed it up with a career-best victory against Leo Santa Cruz at featherweight.
When the chance came to sign him, I jumped at it and we set
about ending his career ticking off what he wanted to achieve.
We delivered him the Windsor Park fight he wanted and got him to box for two world titles. It wasn’t to be on winning one of those but he still had some special nights, most notably his win over Nonito Donaire.
I wish Carl all the best in his retirement and hopefully we will see him working in the sport in some way.
This weekend there’s a BT Sport documentary on my life as a boxing promoter. I’ve been in this sport 40 years and I am delighted to look into the highs and lows for the public.
You see other sides to me and some of my crazy and brilliant moments in boxing.
