HOLLYWOOD character actor Ned Beatty, who played Lotso in Disney’s Toy Story 3, has died.

The Oscar-nominated star – also known for his work in Superman and Deliverance – died on Sunday in his sleep, while surrounded by family.

The 83-year-old star’s manager, Deborah Miller, led tributes saying: “Ned was an iconic, legendary talent, as well as a dear friend, and he will be missed by us all.”

The actor’s career spanned five decades, beginning in 1972 with thriller Deliverance.

He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as TV station exec Arthur Jensen in 1976’s Network.

He showed off his comedic talent two years later as Lex Luther’s sidekick Otis in Superman, a role he reprised in the sequel.

In his later years Ned had several voice roles in animated films, including Rango and Toy Story 3 where he played villainous Lots-o’-huggin-bear.
