Welsh a Panther

- ■ by PETER OAKES

NOTTINGHAM have finally landed veteran NHL forward Jeremy Welsh.

Welsh, 33, will combine playing with studying at Loughborough University.

His signing ends year-long talks, with Panthers boss Gui Doucet insisting the muchtravelled Canadian is not coming to the Elite League for a paid holiday.

He said: “Covid made sure it didn’t happen last season but this time it’s for real. He’s a guy with a lot of experience, a guy who is still hungry to play.

“He’s coming for the right reasons. He’s not coming for a vacation. That was important for us.

“It’s important to get a real pro, someone with experience who can help our young group to move forward.”

Welsh has spent the last four years moving around Europe, playing in the German top flight as well as in Czech Republic and Poland.

■ GUILDFORD have signed American defenceman Jake Bolton, 29, from Swedish Third Division outfit Bodens.
