Kasper: We can win it for Christian

- ■ by CHRIS MCKENNA

KASPER SCHMEICHEL visited Christian Eriksen in hospital and said it was “so damn nice” to see his team-mate.

And now he wants the Danes to go and win Euro 2020 for their popular pal.

Denmark star Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest in the first half of their Group B opener against Finland on Saturday.

The Inter Milan midfielder had to be resuscitated on the pitch in traumatic scenes in Copenhagen.

Leicester keeper Schmeichel (below) has now visited him in hospital.

“It was damn nice to see him smile and laugh and be himself and just feel that he is there,” he said.

“It was a great experience and something that has helped me a lot.”

Schmeichel was one of the first to console his team-mates and Eriksen’s partner Sabrina.

Denmark resumed the game against Finland less than two hours after the incident and lost to a secondhalf header from Joel Pohjanpalo.

They now face Belgium in Copenhagen on Thursday and Schmeichel is focused on getting back on track and motivated to do it for the former Tottenham star.

“We’re still in the tournament,” he said.

“Now we have to try to see if we can win this and do it for Christian and do it for all the fans who sat with us and were just as powerless in the situation as we were.

“I have no doubt that this team has the unity, the strength to be able to come together and go out and do something special.”
