If you’re yearning for a challenging watch, you know one of those countyour-blessings kind of documentaries? There is EXTRAORDINARY TWINS (9pm, ITV) which is also deeply moving and inspiring.
The twins to which the title refers are conjoined, and over the course of two episodes (the second part is at the same time tomorrow) we’ll be hearing their stories and those of their parents.
US couple Chelsea and Nick, from Idaho, mum and dad to little Callie and Carter, recall how they first discovered their unborn twins were conjoined and how they’d been warned they were likely to lose them within 24 hours of Chelsea giving birth.
The fact they survived is a blessing, but as with all the parents here there’s a tough decision to be made – whether to allow the children to remain as one, with the many challenges this will present, or take the gamble of separating them via surgery, which carries terrible risks.
Elsewhere tonight, there are re-runs of two excellent sports documentaries. On BBC One at 11.20pm, there’s another chance to see THIERRY HENRY: MY FRANCE, MY EUROS, first shown five years ago, which looks back at European Championships past and reflects on football’s ability to bring people together in tough times.
And over on BBC Two there’s JOHN MCENROE: STILL ROCKIN’ AT 60 (11.15pm), in which Sue Barker celebrates the life and career of the one-time ‘Superbrat’ (who went on to win Wimbledon three times) and discovers there’s an altogether softer, more sophisticated side to his personality.
