IT’S COMING ROME

Dream is alive as Lions set up last-eight date

- By PAUL BROWN

HARRY KANE broke his Euros duck to send Germany packing and then roared: “We’re not done yet!”

The England skipper scored his first of the tournament to seal victory in front of 43,000 fans at Wembley. It was their first knockout win over Germany in tournament football since 1966.

The Three Lions now march into Saturday’s quarter-final in Rome against Ukraine full of confidence.

Kane, who added to Raheem Sterling’s opener, said: “It doesn’t get any bigger

than this. Knockout game against a big nation, at home. All the pressure is on. All the expectation. And we delivered, so we should be proud of that.

“We don’t want to stop here. We’ve got a vision of where we want to go as a team.

“Hopefully we’ll be back here for the semi-finals and final.”

England boss Gareth Southgate was delighted to see Kane (inset) score – and also praised the fans for inspiring his side.

He said: “For Harry, it was a really important moment. When you’re a centre-forward, you need those goals.

“I was pleased to see that one go in, I have to say. The players were immense and so were the fans.

“I’ve been here with a full house and not heard it near the levels we had today.

“The energy inside the stadium was incredible. You can’t beat a bit of ‘Sweet Caroline’ – that’s a belter.

“And for so many watching at home to have that moment is special. We’ve talked about bringing enjoyment to the nation. Afternoons like this is what that’s about.

“But if we don’t capitalise on that on Saturday, then it doesn’t count for anything.”

England are now favourites to win the Euros but Southgate is urging caution. He said: “It’s a dangerous moment for us.

“That warmth of success and the feeling around the country that we’ve only got to turn up to win things.

“The players know that. Their feet are on the ground.”
