New spotlight on cold case killings

DAVID’S MISSION

-

A NEW true crime series is set to probe unsolved murder investigations.

Catching A Killer, which will air on This Morning, will look at historic cases with the first episode taking viewers behind a brutal murder investigation from 1966.

Criminologist David Wilson will be fronting the series.

David, left, said: “There are at least 3,500 unsolved murders in Britain since 1960. I am delighted to be working once more with This Morning to see if I can shine a light onto some forgotten murders and help to bring some justice for these victims and their surviving families.

“With no fresh leads or evidence, these crimes are classified as cold cases. For the past 35 years I’ve been trying to understand why some are violent and some kill. In this series, I’ll be looking at some historic cold cases to see if at last we might be able to catch a killer.”

The first instalment will air during today’s This Morning, which starts at 10am on ITV.

Murdered

It will focus on the case of Dr Helen Davidson, who was murdered while walking her dog in Hodgemoor Wood near Chalfont St Giles, Bucks, in 1966.

The GP was reported missing after she failed to return from a birdwatching expedition. She was found the next day with her wire-haired terrier dog Fancy cuddling up to her corpse.

Investigators at the time believed that the crime was not premeditated due to the use of a poplar tree branch as the lethal weapon.
