COVERINGS & QR CODES ‘SCRAPPED’
BORIS “Bozo” Johnson plans to ditch the requirement to wear masks to enter bars, restaurants and shops.
The Prime Minister, inset below, will today set out how he plans to “restore people’s freedoms” from July 19.
It is expected he will also scrap the need to scan QR codes to enter businesses – a move set to dramatically reduce the number of people self-isolating.
Social distancing measures could also go as most of the population becomes vaccinated.
Mr Johnson will give the update for England ahead of a formal announcement next week as he wants to give the public and businesses time to prepare for the final stage of the road map out of lockdown.
Brits will also hear the results of a review into the use of so-called vaccine passports and an update on care home visits.
The PM said people would have to “exercise judgment” on how best to protect themselves from the virus.
Mr Johnson said: “Thanks to the successful rollout of our vaccination programme, we are progressing cautiously through our road map.”
The confirmation of a press conference comes after Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said he expected life to “return to normality as far as possible” in England after the “terminus date” due to the success of the vaccine rollout in reducing serious cases.
The Cabinet minister told the BBC the country had moved into the “final furlong” of coronavirus restrictions.
