■ DOZENS of diggers are waiting to be snapped up at a bargain price during a massive equipment sale.

Some 1,599 lots, ranging from articulated dump trucks and excavators to hand tools, went under the hammer yesterday.

Peter Haddock, from auctioneers Ritchie Bros, said: “The boom has been caused by big projects like HS2 and the increase in house building.

■ “Larger companies are under pressure to buy electric and Euro five-compliant heavy plant, and are choosing to get rid of all their old equipment.”
