PM tax fears at diet plan
BORIS Johnson is not “attracted” to proposals for a new salt and sugar tax which could hit “hardworking people”.
The independent National Food Strategy’s idea is aimed at transforming the nation’s diet to include less sugar, salt and meat to protect health and the environment.
However, the Prime Minister indicated he was not in favour of the move in a Q&A session following a recent speech in Coventry.
Mr Johnson said: “I will study the report. I am not, I must say, attracted to the idea of extra taxes on hardworking people.”
