Alun’s a Wyn-ner
THOSE who know Alun Wyn Jones won’t have batted an eyelid at his Lazaruslike recovery from a dislocated shoulder.
The Welsh giant has re-joined the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa, less than three weeks after being ruled out with the sort of problem that would see a footballer sidelined for months.
Jones, who is expected to resume his role as captain, has been named on the bench for the final warm-up game against the Stormers tomorrow.
Even by his standards it is an astonishing comeback from someone now in the twilight of his career.
But it proves once again just how much representing the Lions means to those privileged enough to get the chance.
Jones, who will be 36 in a couple of months, has a world record 148 caps for Wales and is on his fourth successive Lions tour.
His commitment, desire and dedication still remain a supreme example of how to wring the maximum out of the talent you’ve been given, safe in the knowledge that you’re a long time retired.
South Africa will doubtless will target Jones’ troublesome shoulder in the Tests.
But it’s safe to assume he won’t be worried in the slightest – because when you’re as tough as him, you don’t need to be.
