JUST WHAT I ALWAYS WANTED
That’s super, Nuno, because you came below ALL THESE...
NUNO Espirito Santo says his wish came true when he snubbed other clubs to land the Spurs manager’s job.
The former Wolves boss had verbally agreed to join Crystal Palace earlier this summer and was also interviewed by Everton.
But he ended up succeeding Jose Mourinho – and has promised fans the attacking football that Tottenham crave.
Nuno said: “I am so proud. The moment I had the phone call that I had a chance to have a meeting
■ with Tottenham, everything in my perspective changed.
“I am where I wanted to be. Where I wished to be. This is why I am delighted.”
Tottenham spent two months searching for a manager and Nuno was way down their wish list.
Chairman Daniel Levy failed with moves for Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso.
But Nuno, who signed a twoyear contract, says he is not concerned he was far from first choice and claims supporters should not be worried it might go wrong.
He said: “The concerns around the club, it’s normal. All the expectations around big clubs are huge and you have to be prepared for that.
“But the way you prepare yourself is to ignore all the noise, focus on the things you have to control and what I can control is to prepare
the players. Every moment of the training session I’m looking to find the best way.”
After fans fell out of love with Mourinho’s negative style, Nuno has promised them a team they can be proud of.
However, whether he can deliver should Harry Kane leave remains to be seen.
Nuno added: “What we want is to make our fans proud, to make them love their players. Let’s create a good atmosphere.
“I think they will enjoy. This what I am telling the players.
“Our football must be the reflection in the mirror of what we want to do – and I am totally positive the fans are going to love it.”
Nuno wants new signings but confirmed that Gareth Bale will not be coming back and that talks over Heung-min Son’s contract have yet to take place.
He said: “Son will rejoin us very soon and then we will have a chance to talk.”
