When upbeat tunes such as Shape Of You are popular on Spotify, the stock market rises.
But when songs such as the slow Perfect are trending, investors get jittery, researchers found.
Prof Alex Edmans, of London Business School, said: “Our study provides evidence stock markets are driven by emotions, not just fundamentals as commonly believed.”
The team compared Spotify’s most popular tracks with share prices.
