Clunes’ cop role is tough to take
FILMING the new series of Manhunt left Martin Clunes feeling down.
The true-crime drama sees him star as DCI Colin Sutton, who caught serial killer Levi Bellfield and brought him to justice.
The first series was such a hit that he is back on ITV with a follow-up which looks at a new case.
Martin, 59, said: “You are often in a gloomy headspace after being on set talking about these horrible attacks every day.
“We’re covering some truly awful crimes.
“But we tried to do right by the victims by doing the best job possible.
“That’s what I love about these dramas – the crimes might have been solved – but it doesn’t stop you wanting to see them nail these evil people.”
Manhunt: The Night Stalker is based on DCI Sutton’s diaries as he chased down Delroy Grant, who raped and burgled elderly people in London for 17 years from 1992.
The four-part drama is on Monday, 9pm, on ITV.
