‘Haters ended plan to adopt’
STEPS star H missed out on adopting a child because someone involved was homophobic.
The 45-year-old said: “I always had that paternal instinct but I never thought it was possible and I tried many different routes.
“When I started looking into fatherhood I was with somebody and we went down the adoption route very early on – we are talking 15 years ago now.”
He told the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast: “We did the training, we met social workers and it turned out part of the team was actually homophobic.
“People would be called out for that now, but that’s why we changed course and opted for surrogacy.”
H – full name Ian Watkins – became a dad to twin sons Macsen and Cybi with his then partner, theatre director Craig Ryder, via a surrogate in 2016.
