SHEFF UTD PRESTON

- By ROSS HEPPENSTALL

EMIL RIIS struck a dramatic 95th-minute equaliser for Preston to deny Sheffield United a second successive win.

Morgan Gibbs-white put the Blades ahead in the seventh minute but North End levelled through skipper Daniel Johnson.

United sub Sander Berge appeared to have claimed an 84th-minute winner – but Riis struck from close range.

Gibbs-white showed his class to open the scoring in style.

Luke Freeman’s left-wing cross was flicked on by Iliman Ndiaye and fell nicely for the Wolves loanee to fire a right-footed half-volley into the net.

But 12 minutes later Johnson chested Ryan Ledson’s long pass past debutant Blades goalkeeper Robin Olsen before firing into an empty net.

Three minutes before the interval, Preston survived when George Baldock’s low rightwing cross was blazed wildly over the crossbar by Freeman.

But, after Billy Sharp’s low shot was deflected into the path of Berge, he rifled in a fierce shot from close range only for Riis to slot home from a free-kick.
