Trucker Bean to rescue

-

MR Bean could help pull Britain out of its food and fuel supply crisis.

Rubber-faced Rowan Atkinson, who has played hapless Bean since 1990, holds a trucker licence.

And the Blackadder legend says driving lorries gives him more of a kick than performing.

The comedian holds a category C+E driving qualification, formerly known as a Class 1, which means he could help plug the UK’S shortfall of 100,000 HGV hauliers.

Rowan said: “I am not really sure why I like driving lorries. I just get enormous pleasure doing it.

“It’s something to fall back on if it all goes wrong.”

Tim Walker, who interviewed motoring nut Rowan for his new book Star Turns, said: “He admitted he was fascinated with lorries and driving them excited him a lot more than performing.”

Age maybe against Rowan, 66, however, with the average age of HGV drivers in the UK at 55, but haulage firms wanting to attract younger workers.
