Ed: I will switch to electric!

SHEER’S METAL BID

-

ED Sheeran is plotting a heavy metal project after going electric at the BRITs.

The Songwriter Of The Year opened Tuesday’s ceremony with a noisy version of his hit Bad Habits with UK rockers Bring Me The Horizon.

And Ed admits there is more to come: “We’re going to write a song together... playing with Bring Me The Horizon was a dream.

“I got in touch with (singer) Ollie and we were going to write together but then the pandemic happened, so we were in touch – I’ve been a fan for a long time.

“Oddly enough that’s the kind of music I grew up listening to and had a Kerrang subscription and I listened to it constantly.”

Bring Me The Horizon have taken metal to new heights and they helped convince Ed that their version of Bad Habits would work live.

He joked: “I actually said Bad Habits would be a bit of a wet fart if I was just going up there and playing it normally. The song is EDM and they’ve (BMTH) taken it and made it a whole new thing.

“I was just like, you know what, these guitars are going to be great. “It was a week’s turnaround – we emailed each other two weeks ago, recorded it a week ago and rehearsed it three days ago.”

I told you in yesterday’s column how Ed “doesn’t want to repeat” himself with music and so the follow-up to the = album could be very different.

And true to his word his next move could be reggaeton as he jetted off to Paris after the BRITs to shoot a video with “Prince of Reggaeton” J Balvin. Tomorrow he’ll be dropping his collab with Taylor Swift, The Joker And The Queen, which Ed also performed at the BRITs. He added: “I said if I play Bad Habits I also have to play Joker And The Queen so thankfully the BRITS agreed to let me do both.”
