‘ABBA’ STAR BACK TO SYMPOSIUM

-

REUNITED 90s stars Symposium are back to rock out – even though one of them has been in an ABBA tribute band for 12 years.

Bassist Wojtek Godzisz has played Benny Andersson in Bjorn Again since 2010, earning more than his old band did even at their 90s height.

Wojtek told me: “Bjorn Again is great as I’ve gone back to Glastonbury, where Symposium played, and we’ve played for the Queen.

“I’ve had a lot of mind-blowing experiences in both bands.

“There’s no pressure to write songs in Bjorn Again. You get treated very nicely and it’s fun.

“Symposium fans have occasionally come to see me as Benny, and that’s really funny.” Symposium’s music is finally available on streaming, 23 years after they split in 1999.

They also release Best Of album Do You Remember How It Was? on November 11, six days before a comeback show at Islington Assembly Hall.

Singer Ross Cummins now works in IT, but hopes the reunion could become permanent: “I feel like I’ve been let off the leash. I can’t wait to get back out there.

“For years after we ended, I’d get twitchy at 9.30pm, because my body had the adrenaline of being about to go on stage.” The five-piece started at school in Shepherd’s Bush, West London, quickly enjoying hits including Fairweather Friend and Farewell To Twilight.

Guitarist Hagop Tchaparian

admitted: “We took it all for granted.

“Our first time ever in a recording studio was where Queen recorded Bohemian Rhapsody.

“Now, I’d be too nervous to go near Freddie Mercury’s

piano, as it’s so historical.

“Back then, we’d all just muck around playing on it.”
