Tate and smile at tour hit!

SINGER FEARED NO-SHOW

-

TEEN sensation Tate McRae is dazzling fans on her first UK tour – but she’s relieved they are showing up at all.

The Canadian singer started her tour on Sunday when she appeared with Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran at Capital’s Summertime Ball, and plays to 2,200 fans at London Forum tonight.

Tate, 18, told me: “The biggest surprise about touring is when people actually show up to my concerts.

“I never expect people to really come and want to see me sing.

“My brain always tells me no-one will be there, that no-one will know my songs.

“It’s always the worstcase scenario in my brain, so it’s very overwhelming when fans scream my lyrics out.”

Tate, whose debut album I Used To Think I Could Fly reached No7 recently, believes her gigs are where her songs come to life.

She explained: “As hard as it was, I had to put my phone away when the album came out, so that I wasn’t checking the streaming numbers the whole time.

“Those numbers are amazing, but the songs don’t feel legit until I’m singing them in concert and people are singing them back to me.”

The singer, whose hits include You Broke Me First and She’s All I Wanna Be, recently moved from Calgary to Los Angeles.

Tate admitted: “I’ve noticed in some songwriting sessions that I’m repeating the same idea over and over again, because I haven’t experienced anything different in a while.

“That’s when I need to go out and meet people, to feel new experiences and emotions.

“If I don’t do that, writing isn’t therapy anymore – it’s a job.

“That’s when you can lose the passion.”
