WARREN FRANK I’M DUB-LY DELIGHTED

- ■ Interview by CHRIS McKENNA

I WAS overjoyed when our man Daniel Dubois did the business last Saturday night in Miami. It was a result that I had hoped for and expected.

He brings the WBA world title back to the UK and I am very happy for Daniel and his family.

I thought it was a great performance from the 24-year-old (inset). Away from home in strange surroundings, he dominated with his jab and made Trevor Bryan look ordinary.

I expected him to finish it with a right hand but that left hook was a peach. The win means he follows in Frank Bruno and Herbie Hide’s footsteps in becoming my third heavyweight to take a world strap from Don King. That makes it 3-1 to me.

‘Dynamite’ is now the mandatory challenger for the super title. So, along with Joe Joyce, he is next in line to contest the belts held by Oleksandr Usyk.

Talking of Joe Joyce, he is back after a broken wrist and takes on Christian Hammer on July 2 at the OVO Arena, Wembley. It will be a test for Joe but I’m confident he’ll get through it to set up a big fight in the autumn.

Liam Davies was punching his name into Lord Lonsdale belt history last Saturday.

He went into the fight with British title holder Marc Leach as the underdog but did not fight like it.

The Telford boy had Leachy on the canvas courtesy of a big right hand one minute into the fight and despite a nasty cut, he got the nod from all three judges. Although Marc did rally in the last half of the bout, I thought Liam fought brilliantly and had him winning by three rounds.

The support Davies had in the Telford was raucous. He is really developing a following there and across the Midlands.

Tonight, our focus moves to New York, where Joe Smith Jnr takes on Artur Beterbiev for three of the light-heavyweight straps.

Our man Anthony Yarde will be ringside at Madison Square Garden, looking on with interest.

I am confident we can get the winner over here to take on Yarde in October.
