EDDIE LEFT SWEATING OVER SELECTION

- ■ by ADAM HATHAWAY in Perth

ENGLAND boss Eddie Jones could be forced into changes for Saturday’s second Test against Australia in Brisbane even before he wields his selection axe.

He is sweating on flanker Tom Curry’s fitness after he went off at half-time with a head knock in the 30-28 first Test defeat in Perth.

While second row Jonny Hill could face a ban for pulling Wallaby lock Darcy Swain’s hair before the Aussie was sent off.

Jones will have Jonny May available again after Covid and he could replace Joe Cokanasiga, who was lacklustre in Perth.

Tommy Freeman could come into the back three equation but Jones is likely to resist calls to start Henry Arundell, 19.

He scored a wonder try with his first touch in international rugby after coming off the bench on Saturday but Jones (inset) said: “We want to bring him along slowly. He’s got a long career ahead of him. When you consider he hasn’t started much for his club that’s not a bad effort is it?” Jones also hinted that Marcus Smith and Owen Farrell will be given another chance to gel at 10 and 12 after starting just two internationals together.

“It was a good start,” said Jones, who admitted there were still ‘‘areas we need to work on’’. Farrell, meanwhile, has urged England to take a leaf out of rookie Arundell’s book – and play with no fear in Queensland.

Farrell said of the London Irish youngster: “We have seen some sharp players come through here but I am not sure I have seen any as sharp as him.

“He knows he is sharp as well because he backs himself like you saw. He has got a gift really – it’s brilliant when you have those players in your backline.’’
