OH BULLOCKS

Red-faced Joe knows he messed up

- ■ by JULIE STOTT

JOE BULLOCK has vowed to make it up to Warrington after his error kept them in a relegation dogfight.

Wolves looked a good bet to claim a vital win at the weekend over Huddersfield, before Bullock was shown a yellow card.

As he looked on from the sin bin, Warrington imploded and the Giants claimed victory.

Bullock said: “It ended up being the turning point and I held my hand up afterwards and apologised.

‘‘I told the boys I need to do better and hopefully I can make it up to them this week.”

The defeat leaves Warrington just two points above Wakefield and four ahead of bottom club Toulouse with six games left.

It would be a huge blow to Super League if a club of Warrington’s size went down and Bullock added: “We have to consider it as a real threat.

“But they have got to catch us up. It is in our hands and if we get the wins, we won’t go down.

“We have been our own worst enemy and we’ve thrown away so many games that we should have had in our control.

“We’ve put ourselves in a difficult position where we’re looking at the bottom but we just need to finish as strongly as possible.”

New signing Matt Dufty is likely to miss Friday’s game at Wigan after picking up a foot injury in his debut against Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, Wigan boss Matt Peet is convinced St Helens will win the League Leaders’ Shield despite Sunday’s shock hammering by Salford.

Peet, whose Warriors trail Saints by four points, said: “I still think Saints will nail the top spot.”

The two sides meet later this month and Peet added: “It would be exciting if that game ended up being important, but I’m not too optimistic.”

■ LEEDS prop Matt Prior has been banned for two games, his fourth suspension of the season.

The Aussie was sent off for a high tackle in the 36-32 win over Catalans, which was his first game back from a two-match ban.

■ ENGLAND centre Oliver Gildart has joined Sydney Roosters for the rest of the season after struggling for game time at Wests Tigers.
