Bright idea!

WI-FI LIGHTS CUT COSTS

-

WITH energy bills about to rocket, we are all looking for ways to cut down on the amount of power we munch through.

Just in time for the darker autumn nights, one firm has come up with a bright idea that uses your wi-fi to switch on and off the lights as you move from room to room.

WiZ, which is owned by the same company as Philips Hue, is launching a new range of SpaceSense gadgets that can detect movement via tiny disturbances in the wi-fi signal that’s whizzing around your property.

As you walk into a room, these invisible waves get moved around – a bit like when you wade into a swimming pool and create ripples.

The firm claims that by measuring the small deviations in signal strength, its WiZ lights can determine if there is a person in the room.

Once it spots a change in the force, the lights will come on and as soon as things settle down the bulbs switch off.

And don’t worry about the pet cat illuminating your house while you are tucked up in bed as the sensitivity can be changed to suit your needs.

The best part about this technology is that it does not require additional hardware, with everything working via a smartphone app and the WiZ range of light bulbs. It’s out later this month.

● GAMERS now can brighten up their walls at a cheaper price.

The Sonic Limited Edition Starter Kit from Nanoleaf snaps together to create an image of the famous hedgehog’s face.

When these lights launched back in April they cost £300, but that’s now been reduced to £250 at stores including Currys.
